Practical Buddha · The School for Happiness

Happiness isn’t just a state of life. It’s also a state of mind.

Life can move quickly. And even when there is much to be grateful for, happiness can sometimes feel further away than we’d like.

Radiant Life is a year-round membership from Practical Buddha, bringing Tommy’s teachings, guided meditations, live touchpoints, and community together in one place—so you have somewhere to begin and somewhere to keep practicing.

A practical path. A familiar guide. Room to make it your own.

A School for Happiness

How do you find joy in a world that rarely slows down?

Life today is different than when many of us were kids. From the phones in our pockets to the constant flow of news and social media, there is always something asking for our attention.

You might have people you love, a life you’ve worked hard to build, and things to be thankful for—and still find yourself wondering why you don’t feel happier.

That doesn’t mean you’re doing life wrong. Our circumstances matter. So does the way our mind meets them: the thoughts we return to, the habits we practice, and the attention we bring to everyday moments.

Practical Buddha is a school for happiness built around that idea. Through practical teachings, meditation, and simple habits, Tommy invites you to explore what helps you find more joy and live with greater awareness.

Radiant Life is the ongoing home for that work: a place to learn, practice, ask questions, and keep returning to what helps.

Meet the “Practical Buddha”

His search for happiness became his life’s work.

Tommy’s journey began with a question many people know well: why can happiness feel so hard to find?

At 22, Tom Notarianni was diagnosed with dysthymia, a form of chronic depression. He has spoken about that time as a period when his mind felt like it was in a “fog,” and he was searching for something meaningful.

After a hospital stay for a hernia, Tommy decided to make changes in his life and began going to the gym. In his own experience, he noticed a change that went beyond getting physically stronger: he began to feel happier, too.

He later became a personal trainer. One day, a shy and scared elderly woman came to him for help. Tommy spent an extra 90 minutes helping her feel comfortable in the gym. Her response stayed with him:

“She was crying with joy, hugging and kissing me in the middle of the gym! That’s the moment I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life…”

That moment helped Tommy recognize his calling: to help and teach others to be happy.

His search took him beyond the gym. He explored how food and other aspects of daily life affected his mind, learned from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and studied Vajrayana Buddhism with monks. Meditation became an important part of his own practice.

Over time, Tommy brought the practices he found useful together in what he calls the Zen List—a foundation for his teaching. Radiant Life gives that foundation an ongoing home, with tools, live touchpoints, and a community for people who want to keep practicing.
